In 2019, the Hazen Foundation announced its decision to spend down its assets within a 5-year period. This decision was a chance to meet the moment of the movement and mobilize resources for youth organizing groups focused on education and racial justice. It was also an opportunity to develop and empower a whole new generation of young leaders with the tools to completely transform their communities.

On the heels of the announcement, in a piece for The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Hazen’s Lori Bezahler addressed the early successes of young people challenging the system and conveyed the landscape that factored into the decision to spend down.
